Get Qualified in the North West

This is the application form for the Get Qualified NW Project, which offers funding towards certain sport, outdoor and fitness qualifications for individuals who are employed or volunteer in the Sport and Active Leisure sector in the North West (NW). Funding for the project is provided through the European Social Fund (ESF) via the regional Learning & Skills Council and is managed by the University of Cumbria; it is focussed on improving current training opportunities in the Sport and Active Leisure workforce.

Successful applicants must:

  • Want to undertake one of the courses that we can support in Sport, Outdoors or Fitness and have a place confirmed. Applicants must apply at least a week before the course starts and they must be certificated before 1 July 2011.
  • Already be working in Sport, Outdoors or Fitness in the NW (you can be volunteering or paid in sport or outdoors but must be paid in fitness) and be either working or living in the NW
  • Be 19 or over at the time of starting the course (there is no upper age limit)
  • Work / volunteer in an organisation that does not breach EU State Aid Regulations (your organisation will be contacted)
  • Not have received funding for the same level of qualification before (you may apply for support towards a level 2 and then level 3 course)
  • Not be in full time education
  • Sign up to the terms & conditions of the bursary (complete necessary paperwork, CRB check if required, agree to the sharing of your data with third parties)


If your sport or outdoor / fitness course is listed on the Courses page and your place is confirmed then you can apply for funding.You must pass the course to receive the funding and you will be required to pay in full for the course in advance.

If your course is a Level 2, or Level 2 equivalent, then you can apply for 60% of the course fee up to £200. If your course is a Level 3, or Level 3 equivalent, then you can apply for 60% of the course fee up to £300. We will contact your sport or training provider and they will have to approve your application for funding.

You need to know the details of the course that you want funding towards and to have booked onto the course before completing this application.
